Dialogues between water and light in the artistic world of watercolorist Kristina Mekienė
Dialogues between water and light in the artistic world of watercolorist Kristina Mekienė Watercolor artist Kristina Mekienė lives and works in Lithuania. She is a young generation artist who creates using a whimsical watercolor technique, with the help of which she surprises her fans with special artistic paintings. She creates a lot of water, marine themes, urban landscapes and surprising natural details that appear in the author's work. The author's works are done with extreme care and pedantry. The dominant color range in her work is from light to dark shades. Urban images dominate in K. Mekienė's works, but she tries out various painting genres in watercolor: landscapes, marinas, still lifes. The artist will soon present one personal exhibition in one city of Lithuania. She is also an active participant in art competitions and international exhibitions. In her works, K. Mekienė seeks to convey the feeling of place, light, energy, but the last, final, brushstroke, as the artist claims, is still left by the observer, interpreting the visible paintings.Watercolor in the author's work is not only a technique, but also a state. It is impossible to fully control the process: water lives in its own rhythm, color spreads according to its own rules, and the artist can only listen. It is in this sensitive dialogue between will and chance that watercolorist Kristina Mekienė finds her creative voice - an artist in whose works water and light speak quietly but deeply.Kristina Mekienė's watercolors affect the viewer with their lightness at first glance. Transparent color planes, subtle tonal transitions, barely perceptible contours create an ephemeral, almost dreamlike world. However, upon closer inspection, a multi-layered reality opens up: fragments of nature, urban motifs or landscapes of internal states, in which the most important thing is not a specific image, but a mood, state, moment. In watercolor, she chooses to trust the process, allowing the image to emerge, rather than being fully planned.Light is extremely important in the artist's watercolors. It is not just a physical phenomenon - it is an emotional code, an internal pulse. Light in her watercolors often radiates from within: from white paper, from silences, from the voids left behind. It is precisely these pauses, not completely filled spaces that give the works breath, allow the viewer to enter and continue the dialogue with their own experience. The artist's range of themes is wide, but they are all united by the aesthetics of silence. These are not loud stories or dramatic plots. Rather, they are fragments of everyday life, short stops, moments between events. Kristina Mekienė captures what often goes unnoticed: the reflection of light in water, a veil of fog, a color washed by rain, an inner mood that is difficult to describe in words.Observing the phenomena and processes of the artistic life, it can be stated that the watercolors of the artist Kristina Mekienė are distinguished by the play of color gamut, subtle form and expressiveness of strokes in the context of other artistsArt critic Gabrielė Kuizinaitė
